Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Success also means he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
