Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important representative commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
